While there are currently no required licenses or credentials to become a professional organizer, most professional organizers are skilled, experienced professionals. NAPO membership, while not a guarantee as to quality of work, is an indication that a professional organizer is committed to continuing education and an industry code of ethics.
Organizations such as the Board of Certification for Professional Organizers (BCPO) and Institute for Challenging Disorganization (ICD) provide certification that a professional organizer has the knowledge and experience to meet specific minimum standards.
